Free Two-Day Leadership Workshop for Minority Accounting Majors

The Ohio Society of CPAs has partnered with the American Institute of CPAs to offer the AICPA Accounting Scholars Leadership Workshop.

The Ohio Society of CPAs has partnered with the American Institute of CPAs to offer a two-day workshop designed to prepare minority students for the CPA profession. The AICPA Accounting Scholars Leadership Workshop will be held May 16-17 in Dublin, Ohio.

The all-expense paid, two-day workshop consists of speakers, panel discussions, interactive seminars and networking opportunities. The event is designed to help college students develop strategies for enhancing their professional success. During the leadership workshop, accounting students will have the opportunity to meet and connect with accomplished CPA professionals.

“The Accounting Scholars Leadership Workshop is a one-of-a-kind opportunity for minority college students,” said Karen West, CAE, director of The Ohio CPA Foundation, OSCPA’s charitable affiliate. “The path to the CPA credential can be challenging – the workshop prepares students for the road ahead, including passing the CPA exam and developing the necessary skills to be a successful CPA.”

In its report, AICPA Trends in the Supply of Accounting Graduates and the Demand for Public Accounting Recruits, the AICPA reported that African-Americans and Hispanics made up less than 10 percent and 6 percent, respectively, of the students enrolled in accounting bachelor’s degree programs. According to the National Association of Black Accountants, there are even less African-American CPAs – only 4 percent.

Students interested in attending the AICPA Accounting Scholars Leadership Workshop can apply online at www.ThisWayToCPA.com/ASLW. The deadline for applications is April 1. Applications are processed as they are submitted.
